What just happened? I blacked out
It’s been more than a year since I wrote a blog entry. Without having to be cliché about it, it goes without saying that it’s been rough for everyone. I just hope everyone is good in mind, body and soul. So with that all being said what in the fuck have I been up to for the passed 2 years??
Let’s see. First off, I moved to a new Art studio. Took a break to help my brother start his business, fell into his web of burdens, kicked him out the studio for incompetence and ultimately remembered I was an artist and that the word “family” is arbitrary. Kind of burned a bridge with the old building manager, but I gave enough notice, I even found someone to take the old studio. Not sure why but shit got sour after that, but it happens. I moved in to a shared studio with my boy David who is the founder of Dead Since. Now I know what you’re thinking, why give up you’re own studio to then share one with someone else. It’s simple. It’s all about who. I’ve met some people who have had shared studio nightmares. I was one of those people. I shared it with the worse person. My brother was always late on rent, left me in the hole $2k and always left things a mess.. but I digress. Money wasn’t the overlying issue, it was respect.
You learn in life that not everyone is going to have the same ethics and values as you. Some people wing it at life and bring everyone else down with them when it doesn’t work out for them, instead of motivating and elevating. I identified the recurring issue and I cut it off, which is solid advice for anything or anyone who seems to be making you feel like you’re less than what you are. Sometimes people need that to happen in order to learn that they need to get their shit together. So I teamed up with someone I knew wouldn’t ever disrespect and proves it time and time again. I’m pretty proud of our space to be honest. It’s approximately 800 sq ft of Go Fuck Yourself vibes on a second floor of a huge warehouse. We have roof access right outside our window, penthouse style and we have the perfect NYC skyline view.
That’s all nice n everything but don’t get it twisted.. One thing I made clear before agreeing to this place was it needed to be a work place. People get distracted with places like this and get complacent. You start throwing dumbass parties attracting dumbass people. My work comes first. It’s been 7 years since I put together an artshow… and I’ve been planning and planning and planning. The work? Let’s just put it this way…this Spring/Summer show will require waivers to be signed before seeing one of the pieces. I had to consult with a psychologist and was warned not to let people see it for longer than 2 minutes. That’s not even the main piece. There will be exactly 13 pieces, 3 of them being installations. My show will be split into two parts.. Private viewing for my private collectors who have bought from me in the past, they get first dibs, and the main show for everyone else. All pieces with the exception of the Installations will be available in Print form of which will be affordable. The goal is not to make money but to guarantee everyone goes home with some kind of art. I live on the premise that everyone should own a real piece of art from an exhibit and I want to have that same energy going into this artshow and so on. So what have I been upto for the passed 7 years? Moving quietly in the darkest corner of the room waiting. I promised if I was going to do another show that it would be perfect and that’s the goal. If Found Please Destroy coming soon.
